TemperPack is a rapidly growing company based in Richmond, Virginia. We design and manufacture innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products. The markets we serve have an urgent need for disruptive, sustainable alternatives to replace the wide array of non-sustainable packaging materials conventionally used in the cold chain such as Styrofoam coolers. As the Director of Continuous Improvement, you will direct and coordinate activities concerned with continuous improvement of all company activities, driving the organization toward efficient operations, by performing the major duties personally or through other employees as detailed herein.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Confers with management to establish continuous improvement goals/objectives and overall direction.
  • Identify areas with other functional leaders, employees, and customers to develop significant lean and operational improvement opportunities throughout the organization.
  • Network with internal/external resources to bring best practices to lean projects and the organization across all facilities.
  • Develop training materials for Lean processes and principles, as well as other training materials as necessary.
  • Provide education and mentoring to employees on Lean principles and techniques.
  • Facilitate and lead the continuous improvement process by identifying training needs and providing training in problem solving methodology, Kaizen, 5S, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, TPM, etc.
  • Ensure open communication throughout the organization by keeping management informed of Project status and ensuring coordination of Lean activities.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of methods in addition to systems for measuring to ensure that Project goals, objectives and metrics are being met and maintained.
  • Provides input and feedback to key leadership positions about process improvement opportunities.
  • Create metrics, deployment goals, and objectives to drive accountability throughout the organization.
  • Lead the implementation of Lean programs from inception to completion.
  • Manage the planning, facilitation and completion of Lean projects to support cost reduction objectives.
  • Monitor activity level of continuous improvement teams and team champions; alert management of additional support needed to achieve desired results.
  • Maintains current knowledge of lean performance principles and practices and keeps the organization informed.
  • Organizes, plans, reviews, and provides status of projects managed.
  • Models operational excellence, visibly demonstrating leadership/change management behaviors.
  • Other duties as necessitated by the business

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean processes and methodologies within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Value Stream Mapping, Facilitating Kaizen events and knowledge of lean tools and process such as: Continuous flow, set up reduction, Kaizens, Kanban systems, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and 5S practices.
  • Black belt or green belt certification preferred
  • Lean experience required. Fully versed in TQM techniques.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments
  • Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts
  • Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts
